Hello Striders!
How often do you take naps?
I grew up taking naps each afternoon but “grew out of them” by the time I was 8. I have since reimplemented them as part of a (I hate the word “diet” … what to call it?) concerted weight-loss effort. Resting for 30 minutes, even if I can’t fall asleep, has changed the way I view the middle of my day.
I good nap can make the day seem like I got two chances at making it great. =)
My challenge update:
- Crunches: 250 is turning out to be easier than I thought it would be. Magnificent!
- Vegetable: Broccoli, of course!
How’s your week going?

Napping! I think our culture has something to learn from those that siesta every day.
My dad used to nap for 15 to 20 minutes every day. He’d come home from work for lunch (he was a real estate broker) and power nap before heading back in to the office. Now that he’s retired he still naps quite regularly.
I’m not much of a napper. With sleep apnea I can’t just stop and snooze anywhere. I need my CPAP machine. When I do nap I’m usually out for an hour or two and it throws off my sleep rhythm for the night. For that reason, I only nap on occasions when the rhythm is already busted and I’m sick/tired.
Today on the challenge I’ve gotten a single set of crunches in (75) and plan to do 2 more this evening to see if I can get up to at least 200. Maybe tomorrow I’ll get 250! Aiming for cucumber as the veggie.
And tomorrow I get to snowshoe again with LoneCub2’s class at school! I like the snowshoes that they have at school better than mine — I’m glad they broke ’cause now I know what to look for in a better pair.
The cucumbers were crunched (with Cesar dressing, mmmm, Cesar dressing). I did get another 100 crunches (total 175). The last 75 crunches didn’t materialize 8=(

Looking forward to a big finish on Day 7!
Wow! I think I need a nap. My eyes misread LoneWolf’s CPAP machine as his CRAP machine. Funny, but seriously, I need to shut down the computer.
What day are we on?
250 crunches are done (has anyone else noticed that they’re not so bad any more?)
Today’s veggie is cucumbers, in a salad with most of this week’s other veggies.
Naps: very occasionally. They throw my sleep schedule off.
Where is everybody?
Let’s see: Got in bed on time last night and up at 4:30. Did the office building walk at the end of work, 1.3 mi. Stair-climbing: done. Brussels sprouts and cucumbers at dinner. Why didn’t somebody tell me brussels sprouts are so good? And so cute, just like tiny cabbages.
Napping: never. I learned long ago that I wake from naps disoriented and goofy.
Nobody told you about the sprouts for your own protection 8=) I am actually mildly allergic to them and cabbage.
I love brussels sprouts! So flavourful and heavenly (as long as you don’t overcook them – Overcooking releases that bitter taste) =D.
By the way, Seth, a different fruit every day would be a good challenge.
(I hope this works).

Photo that describe how many of us felt last week.
I haven’t been a napper in ages. I used to zone out when I got home from school in front of the TV a year or two ago (on the days I was well enough to go to school), but now I make it through everyday and have some energy after school as well!!
Today I did my crunches and had yellow and green beans at dinner. Mmm. I love my veggies.
Crunch 1 = Wheat grass in a smoothie Yummmm
Crunch 2 = 250/250 They’re not painful anymore.
How funny I took a nap today and I haven’t done that it so long. Right on topic. It was nice to clode my eyes for just 30 minutes. It made the rest of evening just that more relaxing.
Day 6 http://lxxiii.blogspot.com/2010/01/primal-stride-challenge-2-day-6.html
It was a broccoli day here, too! One way I learned to prepare broccoli here was to blanch the florets and then rinse them in cold water to cool. It seems like this is how broccoli is served at the restaurants here. I like it. Seems to accentuate the flavor a bit.
Crunches, I got to 112 and coughed and coughed. Still pretty sick here.
Energy? Um, not this week. But, I have found that I get kinda tired around 4pm. I have been adding a smoothie into this time slot… instead of napping (unless it’s absolutely necessary) or coffee
I’m only on day 3 (well day 4 as I’m posting this on Thursday) as I started late. Had courgette, cabbage and cucumber so far as green veg (actually had a a few other bits but those are the ones I’m counting)
Crunches working up to 250 as none exsistant stomach muscles.. literally, they were cut through to get my eldest out! So far managed 120 and am definitely sore.. I will be keeping this up though even after this week but maybe every other day as better core muscles is one of my main goals this year and long term a less flabby tummy!
