Good Morning, Striders!
I’m sure I’m not the only one with a busy Monday so I’ll keep this short. I’ll give a quick update on my progress and ask you a question that you can answer with your update.
My Update:
- Crunches – 250 each day didn’t seem like a lot at first because I split them up. The area-specific workout caught up to me yesterday evening and I had a solid abdominal ache burning strong. It was gone when I woke at 5am today and 150 into today’s 250 I’m still feeling good. I continue to be thrilled at how quickly my body responds and adjusts to new things. Unfortunately, it also responds quickly to unhealthy food and a sedentary lifestyle. That’s what got me here in the first place!
- Green Vegetables – Today I tossed some celery into my green smoothie. I’m not sure that celery has much nutritive value beyond fiber. That’s okay though. This week is all about variety!
The Question:
What do you look forward to most when you imagine yourself living a truly healthy lifestyle?
Check in, Striders!
Ps. If you haven’t already seen it, make sure you take a look at Carla’s awesome video on how to do a perfect crunch!

I’m looking forward to feeling good again, and I know how good it feels mentally to feel great physically. For years I worked out daily and had a very healthy lifestyle, then back problems, joint pain, and life interfered. Trying to avoid surgeries, I found myself in survival mode, not necessarily trying to feel good, just not to feel too bad. I’ve finally addressed the problems and intend to feel good again. These Primal Stride Challenges are incredibly helpful in keeping my resolve!
Sherry, while it may seem that these challenges have done something for you… I daresay they’ve done nothing. Why’s that? Because a challenge with a bunch of cool web peeps cannot force you to do things you have not already chosen for yourself.
You are the pillar of strength that holds you up when you feel like quitting. We are just the funky graffiti on its exterior. You are the one making amazing things happen. YOU!
I’m delighted at your progress. Truly!
might do bok hcoy today and working through the 250 steadily.
My mom often prepared bok choy during my childhood. Good memories! =)
Reporting in: didn’t do my CORE on Saturday, but back to it Sunday. I had a kinda out-of-it day yesterday (I take a medication that sometimes kicks my butt for the day). But I got in my green veggies both days: Saturday was broccoli, spinach and cucumber; Sunday: asparagus, mixed spring greens plus Dandelion greens (never had those before), and Brussel sprouts. Today I’ve had celery, cucumber, and salad greens. Will do my CORE exercises tonight. I don’t know why I always capitalize that. I guess because the book has it capitalized on the cover, and it just always seems right to me.
Feeling healthy? That would be grand. I’m currently trying a month of being dairy free, and starting off with three days completely vegan (or perhaps more, we’ll see). Multiple sclerosis isn’t a fun disease, and I’m trying to figure out if nutrition can significantly change the disease process. I’m hoping!
I hope you roasted the Brussel sprouts with a bit of olive oil and salt? YUM!
I think capitalizing CORE makes it seem more intense. I like it! =)
Please keep us posted on how your changes in nutrition help/harm you MS? If you’re not blogging elsewhere, I’d love to have you here!
I pretty much have lived a healthy lifestyle for quite a while. Just want to kick it up a notch and “run” a half-marathon this year.
Day 4: crunches done and napa cabbage for greenies.
Hmmm, what does it mean to put quotes around “run”?
In my case, right now, the quotes would mean “lumbering” as I’m not an especially good runner. (Need to drop another 50lbs or so before I’m fleet-footed.)
Or do you mean that you doubt you can do it? Fiddlesticks! Of course you can! Get yourself a training program, any training program that starts out low and adds each week… and you’ll be running 10+ in no time! I’m 350lbs and I can do it.
You can, too!
I’ve been increda-busy but I have done my 100 crunches per day. My core hurts, a lot, but I’m a trooper and am determined to pull through. I haven’t tried my new veggies, cuz I can’t get to the supermarket, but I’ve been having a Shrek Shake EVERYday. I think I’m officially obsessed…. One day probably this weekend I’ll sit down and try my seven new veggies all in a row.
Yeah, you are!
All in a row? Make a super-new-experience stir fry perhaps? =)
The hardest part of the challenge was the crunches so great job making those happen. Amazing!
haha that’s actually a great idea! I’ll take pictures for you =)
where I fuel my body and not my emotions. where I am not consumed with being thin
WORD.
I’ve never been especially thin so I wouldn’t know what it’s like to be obsessed with the stuff.
However, I have been powerful. Amazingly so. I want that back.
Still icky sicky. But I am taking the food and water intake seriously. Being this sick this long is really a downer. Argh.
Feel Better SOON!
Had an incredibly busy day and couldn’t get to the park where I’ve been walking in the afternoons. My back-up plan was my office building; the hallways make a circle, and 19 laps make a mile. It turned out to be a great place to walk indoors, and I think I’ll start doing my morning walk there.
I got in most of my stair-climbing this morning but have a few more steps to do shortly. Just finished having cabbage – coleslaw – for dinner. Not very imaginative, but it was that kind of day.
“but it was that kind of a day”
I entirely know what you mean. I had one of those days as well. So much stuffed pressed into one waking day that I didn’t even have time to hang out with you guys… sorry!
I cabbage is delish. =)
Crunches! It’s a good hurt…
Veggies! Bok choy, baby!
Sick this week, but keeping up.
<3 SJA
Bok choy is the best.
Get yourself healthy!!!
I’m glad for Carla’s video — I’ve been doing something other than crunches which has slowed me down (although they’ve certainly been benfitial). I’ve got 50 crunches in today, with an hour coaching b-ball for my daughter’s team and then 2 hours of ball hockey with the guys.
Hope to get at least another 100 crunches in before bed but I’m not sure if I’ll make it. Give it the college try though.
For the green, I had a medley today in a chicken vegetable stew that my wife and nephew collaborated on. It had celery, peas, green beans as well as carrots, potatoes and corn. Pretty awesome blend.
Glad to see that Striders are keeping up with it all!
That’s a LOT of different veggies! =)
Don’t hurt yourself playing ball hockey. You know what happened last week!
Got my variety of crunches in (250) and had salad greens, broccoli, Shrek shake (spinach).
(Is it still only Monday?)
I’m with ya on that one.
The narcissistic answer: the forever large side of me says BEING SKINNY, and in reality that is a part of it, but what I really imagine is ME being uber fit. Go farther and longer than I could do when I was in middle school track. Strange right?!?
Man, I am a girl full of excuses, but thankfully have been balancing my nutrition to match my laziness/business to help make up for it. I am stressed w/some deadlines and stuff getting ignored around the house and trying to get a little bit of everything done. That being said, I just did 100 crunches and can’t decide if I’m gonna walk the dog (if I don’t Dylan will) or if I am going to take a relaxing bath. (& Finish my crunches right before bed.)
answer:
Oh and I forgot, I had a large salad but w/crap pieces of romaine in it, upside? Tasty blackened chicken and hearts of palm. Dinner had a Greek salad. Nothing new, but keeping stuff green regardless. Rainbow Swiss chard tomorrow.
I’m in the same boat. I just want to be faster. Well, that’s the simplistic answer. I want to be a lot of things… faster is the big one for now.
Your dinner sounds amazing!!!
Opps!! Peppers are a fruit and not a vegetable. It’s because they have seeds. Good thing there was a medley of other vegies in the mix.
When I imagine myself living a truley healthy lifestyle I see myself constantly moving at 100 miles an hour.
250/250 Crunches
Like a 5 year-old bouncing around constantly? I’d like that, too.
When I think of green peppers, I think vegetable. Same with tomatoes.
I know that’s probably wrong… I like it though. =)
So, I’m thinking today is my skip day. I had veggies (peas today =D), but there was one test, one final (FINAL) exam, one final project (instead of an exam) and a fetal pig dissection. Tomorrow I have another test and part two of our final exam, in addition to that big project being due and some presentations. The crunches just sort of slipped by.
Oh! I remember my fetal pig dissection. I think I got extra credit for removing the brain without damaging it. Hmph.
I hope you do well on all your tests. Good luck!
I had a cat dissection as part of a zoology course in University. Well, the cat was the entire semester. The cat was stored in formaldehyde when we weren’t dissecting, so of course, I named him Fluffy.
Got my 250 crunches done by 10 am yesterday. Veggies were broccoli.
Oh, I forgot to answer the question.
Answer:
1 – fitting in a size 6-8 and being able to shop in Forever 21.
2 – weighing between 140-150.
3 – being competitive in triathlons, possibly placing in my age group.
Great job on the 250 by 10!!!
I can’t wait to be athletically competitive. If there were weight classes for races, I’d so win… but there isn’t once you get past 180. I’ve got a ways to go.
We can do this! =)
I can’t wait for my first triathalon.
Oops, I didn’t answer the question either. Truly healthy means not too many meds (I will always need some, like thyroid), and not having to think twice about going on trips or doing something active. I’m thin and always have been, so there isn’t a “new body” I’m looking for, but new muscles and the way I feel when I move will be amazing, in fact it already has started. I want to be able to ski whenever I want and swim and everything active.
I don’t want to have to budget my energy, just use it.
I answered the question in more detail here. The short answer? I’d love to have less pain and less injuries. That would be absolutely delightful.
Losing weight and getting skinny? Not realistic for me, given what my body is not capable of doing. But not having as much pain would be absolutely delightful.
