The Double Crunch Challenge | Day 2

Good morning, Striders!

It’s a beautifully crisp January day here in Mississippi. By crisp, I mean 19F under a bright sun that belies the windy barbs swaying trees outside my window. My stomach feels tight from yesterday’s crunches but there’s no pain. Just a sensation that serves to remind me that I am indeed making progress. I am making a difference.

The plant in the photo is chard. I ate chard today. I have window box of chard sitting on my kitchen counter because it’s too cold to be on the patio. In spite of its red stem, I think it still qualifies as a green vegetable, no?

I’m off for a run. Will update later with a video and some more substantial thoughts.

Check in!

My day 2 is done. Not having any major dislocations, so this is good. :)

      Well done! =)

Done day two, and lots of time to spare! I did the 50 crunches and reverse crunches this morning and am enjoying a green smoothie of spinach, cucumber, apple and vanilla protein powder. The cucumber makes it surprisingly refreshing!

Beautifully done! Doesn’t the apple clash with the vanilla a bit? I’ve smelled vanilla cucumber candles before and that seemed okay. I’d drink it. =)

Them clashing never crossed my mind. I’ve always loved apples with vanilla. I found it needed the vanilla flavour because the cucumber is so watery =D.

98 more to go. i already had a bunch of cabbage for my greenery. will have a romain lettuce or napa cabbage salad for dinner, most probably.
    =D

Sounds yummy! We’re up to our ears in cabbage at the moment. Made sauerkraut yesterday, making kimchi today. Winter vegetables are priced well here, whereas other veggies are 3x what they are in the summer. Makes sense, but takes getting used to if you’re used to year-round variety in the US.

I got a good night sleep last night and awoke feeling better than I have in over a week. I did my 250 stairs this morning and had a long, cold walk this afternoon. Asparagus coming up for dinner.

    • Sarah Joy Albrecht 09. Jan, 2010 at 3:48 pm #

Sleep has always been a struggle for me. Last week’s challenge was a huge help to reprogram my body clock. Good job! :)

How are you preparing your asparagus?

      • Sherry Kerr 09. Jan, 2010 at 4:15 pm #

We’re craving omelettes, so I’m filling with asparagus to get in the greens.

Yesterday, I split up my crunches : 50 regular, 50 ea. L&R oblique, 50 reverse, 50 double (reg + reverse simultaneously). Abs are feeling tighter already. I’m liking how I divided the crunches and plan on doing it again today (Sunday morning here).

It’s been a year since my abdominal myomectomy (+ 5 kids). Last year while I was more faithful in my routine, the routine lacked enough ab work. I’m realizing this during this challenge. However, still recovering from my surgery, too much ab work would really hurt. Feels good to be reclaiming my body.

Cucumbers were the veggie of the day. BTW, the cucumbers here are very different. They’re approx. 12 in x 1 in. While I miss the dipping capability of American cucumbers, the Japanese variety is more concentrated in flavor and a bit drier.

Getting ready to knock out my crunches now. Had asparagus AND broccoli for dinner. Talk about double-crunch! LOL

Good job everyone! It’s a bit amazing to be participating in this with all of you from all over the globe! Gosh, I love the internet! I’ve never been part of an international challenge before.

(Just look what you’ve started Seth!)

Catch up with you all tomorrow. . have a restful night.

Day 2 new fruit was a pear – enjoyed it more than the apple. Traveled back home and did the 250 crunches last night.

Only managed 50 crunches for day 2 (that was yesterday). Was planning to do 5 sets of 50 throughout the day — you know how that went! Tomorrow’s another day (actually, today 8=)

Sweet Mama and I were at a potluck for supper and someone brought a broccoli salad. Never would have thought of such a thing but it was fantastic! Had a few other green veggies as well.
