Shrek In A Blender – Eating For Results

A year ago, a blender full of raw collard greens and bananas would have made me vomit. In fact, I still think the consumable I demonstrate above is pretty gross.

I don’t drink it because it’s tasty. I drink it because I have drunk it before and I like how it makes me feel. My body knows exactly what to do with raw fruits and vegetables and it doesn’t take long for the energy kick to set in.

But this isn’t about whether or not we should all be eating more raw fruits and vegetables. This, for me at least, is about discovering the different ways we relate to food and how those relationships affect our daily lives.

I began drinking green smoothies because my sister suggested them as a way to feel full and add nutrients to my diet without a lot of calories. The first green smoothie I tried was made with baby spinach, frozen bananas, and fresh pineapple. It was sweet, smooth, went down cold, and gave a lasting energy kick that knocked the socks off the energy drinks I was used to guzzling.

That first green smoothie started me on a search for other foods that made me feel nourished, healthy, and satisfied.

What foods do you associate with feeling nourished, healthy, and satisfied?

greenmonstermovement.com Angela@OhSheGlows has started that. They’re great. You can add so many things to them. Spinach, kale, cocoa powder, avocado, etc. Endless.

I’m going really lean with mine now. The other stuff is fun but it doesn’t really seem to do anything energy-wise.

Raw cocoa is potent stuff. Love it. =)

Great idea! I usually put a lot of stuff in my juicer like something green:

parsley, kale, spinach, celery etc. in any combination (or if you have access to wheat grass that’s superb)

    something sweet and fruity:

    grapes
    apples
    pears
    pineapple
berries of any kind . . . etc.

But I’m going to try your blender version. I’ve always felt the pulp was there for a reason.

A little Photoshop on that last shot and you’d look like the Hulk ;)

I’ve never made a green smoothie but it actually looks kind of good. I wonder how it would affect someone who already has enough energy for 3 people?

I just tried Boca burgers for the first time today. I made my own “tv” dinner to take to work: boca burger, corn, carrots…a lot less calories and fillers!

I start my day off with a Shrek shake, too. I put frozen sliced bananas in it (just have to remember to slice and freeze them). It’s a good feeling to know I’ve managed to get in at least one serving of green veggies in.

    Happy New Year!

I just had to try these and I have all the ingredients on hand. I made mine with baby spinach and bananas. Yummy my five year old loved it as well. Thanks for the great info.

Gotta say, love it that you call it a Shrek Shake. :D

I so wish I could get a decent variety of North American greens here. The ones we have wouldn’t do well in a smoothie. :(

Broccoli is my food that makes me feel healthy, full, and on track.

I do green drinks, too…but I’m a little less hard core…I simply do 1 scoop of protein powder, spinach, ice, and water. I’m kind of like Miss Muffett…I just drink my greens and whey!

    Cheers!

Melon adds a nice flavour to the mix. I don’t do lots of smoothies but when I do, I always appreciate them. Good for you Seth! Keep on rocking it!

It’s pretty awesome having nutrition as my life. I always tell people when they ask me what kind of supplements to take. Start with the basics and get some whey protein as a body building supplement then if you want, try an EFA stack for weight loss. As always throw in a multivitamin.
